Gluten Free Opera (working name) is the brainchild of Lena Haleem and Sophia Mortensen, two mezzo-sopranos with a passion for universal accessibility to opera. We are starting our company with a season of Deconstructing the Diva. In our Halloween Spectaculathon, Valentines concert, and Spring concert, we will present unpretentious, down-to-earth (literally) scenes and arias. We believe that, while not everyone has to love opera as much as we do, opera should be approachable and familiar for everyone, so that everyone can make that decision themselves. We can’t wait to share our love for this art with you, and someday present fully-staged operas in their entirety!
