14 Brooklyn artists and their sidewalks
Artists have always been highly aware of their surroundings. Often entire environments are noted: objects and architecture, sights and sounds, people and their stories. Monet and Manet painted Paris at all times of day and night. Later, the Ashcan painters depicted New Yorkers negotiating harsh city streets. Here, 14 Brooklyn artists use bold color, painterly surfaces, cropping, and often extreme attention to detail in depicting nuance on our sidewalks. These Park Slope and Winslow Terrace artists are our community, and it shows.
