The Danish pianist Carl Winther and bassist Richard Andersson have been collaborating for years. In 2023, they invited American drum phenomenon Jeff “Tain” Watts to join them for a European tour, culminating in the album WAW! (HobbyHorse Records, June 2024). This album captures the trio’s energy and unique synergy.
“The music evolves constantly when the three of us play together. I’m really looking forward to seeing where the music takes us this time and bringing the audience along for the journey,” says Carl Winther.
Jeff “Tain” Watts: Jeff is widely recognized as one of the most influential drummers of his generation, having performed with icons like George Benson, Harry Connick Jr., McCoy Tyner, and Kenny Garrett. He has won multiple Grammy Awards, including two with the Branford Marsalis Quartet, three with Wynton Marsalis, one with Harry Connick Jr., one with the Mingus Big Band, and two with the Metropolitan Opera.
Carl Winther: Carl is highly regarded as one of the most talented and innovative jazz pianists of his generation, earning recognition both in Denmark and internationally. He has worked with renowned artists like Jerry Bergonzi, Billy Hart, Adam Nussbaum, and Till Brönner.
Richard Andersson: Richard is celebrated for his work as a composer and bassist in modern jazz. Described as “one of the most interesting characters on the Danish jazz scene” (Gaffa), he has released several albums as a bandleader, featuring both Danish and international musicians.
