Meet Our Instructors

Briggan Krauss

Briggan Krauss, saxophonist and composer, has been an internationally recognized key player in New York City’s creative music scene since 1994. He connects the extreme edges of technique with the unexplored tonal possibilities of the instrument while making his work as much about shape as it is about his unique signature sound. Briggan’s voice has been a part of the iconic quartet Sexmob from its inception. Briggan is also a guitarist and makes wide-ranging use of Max/MSP for digital audio and video in the areas of sound art, electronic music, and interdisciplinary performance. https://briggankrauss.com, https://briggankrauss.bandcamp.com

Joshua Goldberg

Joshua Goldberg is an artist, producer and developer whose work explores the destruction of meaning and stories in the name of physiological effects and disorienting psychedelia. As the first person at NYU’s ITP program to explore the usage of Max for video and the creator of the Max/MSP/Jitter curricula for both the Parsons MFADT and the NYU IDM programs, he’s been kicking at node-based programming language techniques for almost twenty five years. https://goldbergs.com

Armon Naeini

Armon Naeini is a multimedia artist, creative technologist, and educator. His work augments and deconstructs identity and reality through glitching and destruction of visual data. Armon produces interactive installations, real-time visuals, AR/XR experiences, and experimental software to explore themes of chaos and entropy. He is also a VJ and live performer, using custom-coded, real-time software to create interactive visuals and performances. https://entroplay.world

Matthew Garrison

Matthew Garrison grew up in New York City immersed in a community of musicians and artists which included his father Jimmy Garrison, bassist for John Coltrane, and renowned drummer Jack DeJohnette, his godfather. Matt studied piano and bass guitar in Rome and continued his studies in New York City with DeJohnette and bassist Dave Holland. In 1989, he attended Berklee College of Music on full scholarship, beginning his professional career alongside Gary Burton, Bob Moses, Betty Carter, Mike Gibbs and Lyle Mays. He has since performed, toured and recorded with Herbie Hancock, Joe Zawinul, Chaka Khan, Joni Mitchell, Whitney Houston, Meshell Ndegeocello, Paul Simon, Cassandra Wilson, John Mclaughlin, Tito Puente, the Saturday Night Live Band, Pat Metheny, Carlos Santana and many others. In 2012, Matthew and business partner Fortuna Sung opened ShapeShifter Lab, which quickly became one of New York’s most important music venues, as noted by Time Out New York in 2013. Subsequently, with Sung and Ravi Coltrane, Matthew formed the non-profit ShapeShifter Plus to advance innovative projects set forth at ShapeShifter Lab.
