Description

Woven lines, soundscapes, psycho-emotional excursions as navigated by a quartet
of guitar, bass, double bass, and percussion. Double Night Wave draws on the improvising imaginations of Josh Scott, Lim Yang, Yuko Togami, and Paul Steven Ray with musical backgrounds covering a broad spectrum that includes Free Jazz, Experimental Noise, Grind Core, Mainstream Jazz, Psychedelic Post Rock, and Funk.

 

Paul Steven Ray‘s work  has been heard in a wide range of venues including Issue Project Room, The Stone, ShapeShifterLab, Trans Pecos, and KnockdownCenter.  He has composed work for  WHITENOISE V, the International Electro-Acoustic Festival, Cosmoson-Paris, CERF Festival, North River Music Series, and Composers Now. He has collaborated with Bora Yoon, Vernon Reid, Nate Wooley, Oblaat, Pheeroan Ak Laff, Brandon Ross, Yuko Fujiyama, Cyro Baptista, and Val–Inc., . He is the leader/composer of BlueBlackDream, NineNine, and partner with Theresa Rosas in the Ray-Rosas Project. He has composed four operas:  Sally Distance(premiered by Bora Yoon at Galapagos Art Space), Sleeperhold( Issue Project Room), SplitRock( ShapeShifterlab), and  the Good Narrow Night( The Church of the Intercession Crypt.   His poetic soundscape multimedia piece I Wish You Were There When I Was There, was performed at The GreenKill Gallery Kingston NY.   Recent releases: The Ticking and Some People Float and the debut recording, Conjure Steps from his new  Parallax Trio project are available on bandcamp.. The DECELERATION 1, the first part of his multimedia DECELERATION TRILOGY was performed at Super Secret Arts in May of 2022. DECELERATION 2 was performed at The Center for Performance Research in February 2023.

 

Josh Scott
Josh Scott is a fixture of the NYC’s noise rock/ grindcore scene having created, performed , and recorded with Anodyne, Defeatists, and Radiation Blackbody. He is a quiet and LOUD, calm and Deadly keeper of the lower flames.

 

Jeong Lim Yang
Native South Korean, bassist Jeong Lim Yang performed extensively in New York City since 2011 as a sideman with great figures in the scene such as Jason Palmer, Oscar Noriega, and Kenny Wollesen. her debut album as a leader and composer titled Déjà Vu (Fresh Sound 2017), won NPR’s ‘the best debut album of the year’. Yang released the experimental brooklyn-based collective band “Mute” (Fresh Sound 2020) and received an international proclamation.
Yang’s latest record “Zodiac Suite: Reassured” (Fresh Sound 2022) is a rendition of Mary Lou Williams’s Zodiac Suite (1945) and the Zodiac Trio held their release concert at National Sawdust in Brooklyn in October 2022. Yang’s lyrical and melodic playing has been pursued and desired by many contemporary jazz and improvised musicians.

 

Yuko Togami
Yuko Togami is a drummer and composer currently based in New York City, originally from Saitama, Japan.  She received a scholarship from The Kaye Scholars Program, and studied privately with Adam Cruz, Nasheet Waits, and Ben Street. She graduated with her BFA degree in jazz performance and The Pro Musica Award from City College.  She has performed with Daniel Carter, David First, Ayumi Ishito, Rema Hasumi, and Steve Wilson.  Her debut album “Dawn” was released in April 2018, and has won a Silver Medal at the 2018 Global Music Awards for Outstanding Achievement.
