Cisco Bradely describes him as having “a daring that few artists possess.” Bruce Gallanter recalls that his two hour opera\, Myrrha’s Red Book\, which received the Jerome Artist Award\, was “unlike anything he reviewed in recent times.” His label\, Uqbar Music\, features Eight albums as leader; many included on best-albums-of-the-year lists. \nSam Newsome stands as a multifaceted figure in the world of jazz—a saxophonist\, music professor\, and accomplished writer. In 2022\, Newsome received the prestigious Bronx BRIO Award for Instrumental Music and secured the title of Soprano Saxophonist of the Year in the 14th Annual International Critics Polls.

In September 2018\, O’Farrill released his album\, Fandango at the Wall: A Soundtrack for the United States\, Mexico\, and Beyond\, which was also released as a documentary for HBO MAX. In 2019\, O’Farrill was appointed Professor at The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music in the Global Jazz Studies department and is currently the Associate Dean for Equity\, Diversity\, and Inclusion. O’Farrill’s debut recording with Blue Note Records …dreaming in lions… was nominated for a 2022 GRAMMY Award in the “Best Instrumental Composition” category\, and his album\, Virtual Birdland (ZOHO)\, was nominated for “Best Latin Jazz Album.” In 2023\, O’Farrill won a GRAMMY Award for Fandango at the Wall in New York in the “Best Latin Jazz Album” category. The ensemble performs numerous concerts throughout the city each year\, both at school and throughout the community. Over the past decade\, the band has enjoyed collaborating with Arturo O’Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra on yearly joint performances in Brooklyn and Staten Island. They also made their Carnegie Hall debut in 2020\, Dizzy’s Club and Birdland Jazz Club debut in Spring of 2023\, and will be performing a joint concert with Eddie Palmieri in June 2024.

SUMMARY:"Abiding Memory" Album Release Concert - Phillip Golub Quintet
DESCRIPTION:Phillip Golub –  Piano\nAlec Goldfarb – Guitar\nDaniel Hass – Cello\nSam Minaie – Bass\nAdriano Vicentino – Drums\n  \n\n\nThe Phillip Golub Quintet is a new project of Brooklyn\, NY-based pianist and composer Phillip Golub. The quintet’s debut album\, called “Abiding Memory”\, is slated for release on June 21\, 2024. The record will come out jointly on Berthold Records (Germany) and Endectomorph Music (USA).\n\n\n  \nThe music is stylistically unique\, employing an electric guitar and a cello alongside piano\, bass\, and drums. His wide-ranging influences come into contact\, conflict\, and marriage\, producing a music that reflects on a desire to live in an imagined past. But instead of being stuck in the past\, the music is “stuck in the present.” Themes and ideas are recycled and repurposed throughout our set\, creating a sensation for the listener that feels like the act of remembering. Their set isn’t made up of “tunes” but rather one through-composed suite of interwoven movements.

SUMMARY:Jam Session Hosted by Anthony Muthurajah
DESCRIPTION:Anthony Muthurajah is a Bahrain born Sri Lankan musician specializing in the bass guitar. Music was an integral part of his life unknown to him. At age 12\, he joined the local church band as the drummer and that’s where it all began. He was nurtured and mentored to eventually pick up the guitar and a little bit of bass guitar. At age 17\, he moved to Chennai\, India for a year and was an active part of the gospel scene. In 2010 July\, he moved to Kuala Lumpur to pursue his music education at the International College of Music\, a Berklee International Network partner school. While in college\, a change of heart made him switch to the bass guitar as his primary instrument from the guitar. From the summer of 2011\, he became highly active as a session bass player\, both live and in the studio. While in Malaysia\, he worked with Ning Baizura\, Michael Veerapen\, Jayesslee\, Melissa Indot\, Mokhtar Samba African Jazz Project\, Patrick Terbrack\, Valtinhio Anastacio\, John Thomas\, Lewis Pragasam to name a few artists.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHe eventually relocated to Doha\, Qatar in November 2014. He worked extensively with many visiting artists to the now defunct Jazz at Lincoln Center Doha and did a 2 month residency at the club with renowned singer from acid jazz group Incognito\, Deborah Bond. He then moved to Dubai\, U.A.E in the summer of 2015 working in various formats\, most recently having played bass for the world premier of Emirati composer\, Ihab Darwish’s album\, Waves of my Life which featured the Beethoven Academy Orchestra and Polish Chamber Choir from Poland on March 2018. Ever since his relocation to Dubai\, he focused a lot more on the educational side of music\, contributing to the ever growing need for video lessons on the internet. DESCRIPTION:9pm-9.45pm: MJ12 \n10pm-10.45pm: Time Trout \n  \nMJ12 \nPercy Jones – Bass \nChris Bacas – Sax \nDavid Phelps – Guitar \nStephen Moses – Drums \n  \nTime Trout \nViv Corringham – Vox \nMarcus Mummins – Sax \nDave Mandl – Bass \nStephen Moses – Drums \n  \nPercy Jones and MJ12 JazzRock !! \n  \nTime Trout is drummer Stephen Moses and bass guitarist Dave Mandl create a series of hypnotic locked grooves\, that simultaneously draw you in and subtly pull the rug out from underneath you all at once; like repeatedly stumbling down the last couple of steps to the dance floor. Over this hypnotic ouroboros of a rhythm section\, Marcus Cummins’ saxophone deftly feints and weaves between the cracks\, running the gamut from tentative\, staccato stabs to giddily whirling lyricism. \n  \nThe three instrumentalists constantly trade emphases in such an assured way that you quickly stop trying to focus in on one part and give yourself over to the single\, intricate whole; running through which\, like a bright red thread through the labyrinth\, is Viv Corringham’s astonishing spoken word vocal performance. A restless stream of consciousness that seems to have the primal urgency of a message delivered in a dream\, Corringham mixes Delphic abstractions with bracingly lucid implorations\, the whole performance delivered with such seamlessness that it’s hard to tell whether the lyrics are channeling the music or vice versa. The answer\, of course\, is both.
