Quiet sounds became music through Cage’s lens. Conservatory\, metal clubs\, and improv sessions wrangled it all together. Premieres came and went. An album was released\, ‘Democracy’\, with very little fanfare or interest. Bankruptcy\, divorce\, mental illness\, alcoholism\, followed by sobriety\, a new partner\, and inconceivable joy. DESCRIPTION:Max Mahler Quintet Journey To The West Suite\n\nJourney To The West is a classic work of Chinese Buddhist Literature written by Wu Cheng’en during the Ming Dynasty. It is the mythologized account of a monk venturing west to bring Buddhist scriptures back to China. Panamanian-American jazz guitarist Max Mahler was inspired to write a suite representing the work as a whole\, converting its fantastical characters and themes into hard bop — echoing the music of Freddie Hubbard\, Joe Henderson\, and Wayne Shorter.
