Beverly is an artist\, photographer\, singer-songwriter\, composer\, and activist who has greatly contributed to our community. \nJason Weiner and the membership staff have played a key role in bringing this event to life. We thank them for sharing the same joy and respect for the arts\, which enriches all walks of life. Before the shutdown\, this concert series was a crucial and pinnacle way of bringing us closer together as a community that truly cares about the world around us. Sophomore David Healey led the effort with help from other interested BCmusicians. BC bOp! began rehearsing on November 8th\, 1987. The band engaged the services ofSebastian Bonaiuto\, a former music educator and graduate of the Boston College Carroll Schoolof Management\, to direct the ensemble on a volunteer basis. After selecting an advisor\, BC bOp!was recognized as an official university club on January 10\, 1988\, Sebastian Bonaiuto continuedas BC bOp!’s musical Director. \n  \nIn July of 1989\, Sebastian Bonaiuto was appointed Boston College Director of Bands. Soonthereafter\, the members of BC bOp! voted to become an ensemble of the Boston College BandsProgram. The addition of BC bOp! to the Bands Program expanded the offerings to includeinstrumental and vocal jazz performance. \n  \nWe\, the members and directors of BC bOp!\, acknowledge that our repertoire is primarily basedon jazz–a genre created by Black musicians that has roots in spirituals and work songs. We areaware not only of the privilege we have\, but of the responsibility we carry in performing thisgenre on and off Boston College’s campus. We aspire to create a space in whichthought-provoking conversations are a part of our performances\, a space in which individuals ofthe Boston College community may reflect on our institution’s place in Black history and its rolein shaping Black futures. The meeting begins once the room fills\, usually about 15–20 minutes after.\nThe yoga practice runs for about one hour\, followed by an optional hangout. \n​​🌿 What to Expect\nWe’re a club\, not a class. Come as you are\, say hello to the people around you\, and settle in. Our all-levels practices run about an hour. \n​​We understand that life happens. Sometimes that means showing up late\, in your pajamas\, or both. We leave some time at the beginning of our meetings to ease in and socialize. \n​​🎷 After Yoga\nStick around if you’d like. There will be live jazz downstairs and a cash bar with snacks for us to enjoy after practice. \n​​💫 About Yoga Club\nWe bring people together through high quality\, affordable yoga and community. We meet in creative spaces around the city to move\, breath\, and make new friends.
