With so many gifted and talented members\, creating this series was a natural decision and a no-brainer.\n\nThe baton of music and performance curation was passed on to Jay and Alexis by Beverly Grant—a great artist and long-time member since the inception of the Food Coop. Beverly is an artist\, photographer\, singer-songwriter\, composer\, and activist who has greatly contributed to our community.\nJason Weiner and the membership staff have played a key role in bringing this event to life. We thank them for sharing the same joy and respect for the arts\, which enriches all walks of life.\n\nBefore the shutdown\, this concert series was a crucial and pinnacle way of bringing us closer together as a community that truly cares about the world around us. Art\, in every aspect of our human experience\, is a life-healing force.\n\nAlexis Cuadrado and Jay Rodriguez are both professional musicians\, composers\, and producers. They have expanded the vision of the curation to create a platform for freedom of expression for all. Shapeshifter Lab visionaries Fortuna Sung and Matthew Garrison have also become vital to our mission\, generously providing us with their performance space across the street from the Food Coop.

SUMMARY:Holman Alvarez’s Hidden Objects
DESCRIPTION:Satoshi Takeishi (drums)\,\nJohn Hébert (bass)\,\nRachel Therrien (trumpet)\,\nHolman Alvarez (piano and composition)\n\nPianist/composer Holman Alvarez sees the world through a compositional lens. On his newest release\, Hidden Objects\, he leads an all-star band through nine expressive\, serpentine compositions that reveal a unique musical worldview. In his playing\, there is a touching lyricism and forward-thinking harmony\, mixing warmth with the cerebral. And there are references to the Latin American rhythms and modern classical figures that are an innate part of Alvarez’s compositional and improvisational vocabulary. Beyond musical touchstones\, though\, it’s evident that there is a much more grand\, big-picture artistic vision at work.

SUMMARY:Vivienne Aerts Concert and Chocolate Tasting
DESCRIPTION:Vivienne Aerts – Piano and Voice\, \nJames Robins on Bass\, \nAllison Philips on trumpet \n\n\n\n\n\n\nCome to the live recording and tasting concert at the Shapeshifter on Monday January 27th. Vocalist Pianist Vivienne will play with Rachel Therrien on trumpet and Eduardo Belo on Bass and Chef Teddy will make some delicious chocolate bites.\n\n“The staggeringly versatile skill-set of NYC-based Dutch Singer\, Educator\, Psychologist and Artist-preneur Vivienne Aerts busts myths around the ‘Jill of all trades’ paradigm with a nonchalance that leaves even the most skeptical purist taking a bow. A practicing clinical psychologist and choir conductor in Europe before she went on to be a Fulbright scholar and Suma Cum Laude Berklee graduate\, her collaborators since have included some of the most iconic names in the world of jazz. Her eclectic ‘experience’ events in collaboration with her husband\, renowned pastry chef Ted Steinebach was the root of her multi-disciplinary approach to the making of her new album\, ‘Typuhthâng’\, which not just features a 100 female musicians from around the globe\, but also comes with a bar of bean-to-bar chocolate from Original Beans Chocolate\, a company that pro-actively empowers female cacao farmers of Virunga State Park in Congo. Besides this\, she is a faculty member at Berklee College of music where she has been instrumental in building a new generation of performers who are not only skilled musicians but also mentally and physically healthy individuals.”\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:The Park Slope Food Coop Concert Series #4
DESCRIPTION:Everyone Welcome!\nMembers and Non-members!\n\n\n6:30 pm     Bomin Kim Duo \nBomin Kim on Piano\, Seungmin Jung on Bass \nThe duo sessions \n7:20 pm    Darren Solomon + Nathan Haselby – Jazz Manouche \nJazz Manouche\, maybe little bit Western Swing \n8:00 pm    Annie Keating Band \nAnnie Keating on acoustic guitar\, \nDan Vonnegut on drums\, \nJamie Fox on electric guitar\, \nBen Ruben on bass guitar and \nSteve Jenkins on piano/keyboard \nTalent spotted by BBC Radio‘s Bob Harris\, Keating has released 11 critically acclaimed studio albums drawing formidable comparisons to artists including Lucinda Williams\, Bob Dylan\, Willie Nelson\, Johnny Cash\, Bonnie Raitt and John Prine along the way. A staple of the contemporary Americana scene\, Annie Keating writes and sings like a woman who knows deep down that heartache is the price of hope\, and she can make us believe — in that way that only the best artists can — that all of it is worth the cost. \n\n\nThe Park Slope Food Coop Concert Series is one of the most exciting initiatives we undertake as a community.

SUMMARY:Anthony Jackson Benefit Concert
DESCRIPTION:ANTHONY JACKSON BENEFIT CONCERT\nShapeShifter Plus 501c3 Presents\nFor The Love Of Anthony\nAn evening to celebrate and honor the life and work of legendary bass guitarist\, Mr. Anthony C Jackson.\nDONATION TO ANTHONY JACKSON (if you can’t attend) \n\n\n\nAs a first-call New York City session bassist for over five decades\, Anthony Jackson played on thousands of recordings\, among them some of the most celebrated and important albums and tracks in pop and jazz history. Along the way\, he redefined the art of the bass guitar through his singular approach to bass line construction and his invention of the 6-string Contrabass Guitar.\n\nFollowing his landmark run simultaneously anchoring and elevating the music of artists like Billy Paul\, The O’Jays\, Buddy Rich\, Roberta Flack\, Chaka Khan\, Paul Simon\, Steely Dan\, Chick Corea\, Al DiMeola\, Lee Ritenour\, Luther Vandross\, Steve Khan’s Eyewitness\, Akiko Yano\, Michel Camilo and Hiromi\, Mr. Jackson’s last performance was with Hiromi in her trio with drummer Simon Phillips\, in 2017. After suffering a series of strokes and being diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease\, he has not been able to tour\, record or perform locally. However\, he continues to work diligently every day in therapy and never takes the bass guitar out of his hands.\n\nJoin us to celebrate the life and work of this pioneer and genius. Bass Magazine editors Chris Jisi and Elton Bradman will be interviewing Anthony\, as well as an amazing lineup of artists and surprise guests\, who will each perform music associated with Anthony’s long career.\n\nThis very special evening will be a one-time only event only in an effort to help raise funds for Anthony Jackson’s continuing health and living expenses. Tickets are extremely limited so get yours now. You won’t want to miss honoring a true musical giant who has meant so much to our hearts\, minds and ears!
