DESCRIPTION:The Fat Cats Youth Orchestra Open Workshop and Rehearsals Weekly at ShapeShifter\n  \nSparkling with the sound of young talent\, The Fat Cats is a pre-professional youth orchestra. The group is composed of one big band and two small ensembles that perform Latin jazz and standard jazz pieces and showcase the finest young talent from across all NYC boroughs. \nFounded in 2010 by Arturo O’Farril and managed by the Afro Latin Jazz Alliance\,  The Fat Cats is led by Zack O’Farrill with Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra members Jim Seeley\, Berta Moreno\, and Jasim Perales\, as well as Arthur Alvarez and Adam Baksh-García. \nOver the years\, The Fat Cats have taken the stage at New York venues such as the Brooklyn Museum\, New York Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center\, the Frick Collection\, the Greene Space at WNYC\, BRIC House\, Birdland and Brooklyn’s Shapeshifter Lab who has welcomed the band for weekly rehearsals since their 2023-2024 season.

DESCRIPTION:Mattan Klein- flute\nTammy Scheffer- voice\nManu Koch- piano\nYoni Ben Ari- bass\nRonen Itzik- drums\n\n\nVocalist Tammy Scheffer and Flutist Mattan Klein have been collaborating over the past 15 years\, bringing to their performances a rare chemistry and their shared love of Israeli\, Brazilian and jazz music. Tonight’s concert will be featuring compositions by both\, as well as their interpretations of beloved pieces by Hermeto Pascoal and other geniuses of contemporary music. They will be joined by pianist Manu Koch\, bassist Yoni Ben Ari and drummer Ronen Itzik.\n\nBorn and raised in Jerusalem\, flutist Mattan Klein’s original compositions feature a contemporary blend of Israeli and Brazilian music\, and earned him awards such as the John Lennon Songwriting Contest and the USA Songwriting Competition. As a bandleader\, Mattan and his group were featured at the Red Sea Jazz Festival and Tel Aviv Jazz Festival in Israel\, Cambridge England Jazz Festival\, and the Nisville Jazz Festival in Serbia\, among other premier stages. His album The Long Run (2022\, Ubuntu) was featured on the Best Jazz Albums list of Jazzwise\, praised for “spacious arrangements within which Klein’s crystalline flute rises clear and pure” (-Tony Benjamin\, Jazzwise).\n\nHailed by the Chicago Tribune as “innovative\, provocative and alluring\,” vocalist and composer Tammy Scheffer has been a creative force in NYC’s vibrant music scene for more than a decade. Most recently she appeared on albums with Stefan Bauer’s Voyage West\, Amanda Monaco’s Pirkei Avot\, and Joe Phillips’ opera The Grey Land. As a bandleader\, Tammy released the album Wake Up\, Fall Asleep with her sextet on the label Inner Circle Music.
