DESCRIPTION:The Bowery Jazz Messengers is a NYC band and charity that plays at The Bowery Mission in New York City\, and other venues in the Greater New York area\, where its music helps inspire anyone experiencing homelessness or poverty. The Bowery Jazz Messengers received 501C3 status in NYS in July of 2020 and also provides a positive environment for young jazz musicians to develop their craft while performing service to their community. \n  \nShapeShifter Plus provides the space and equipment for The Bowery Jazz Messengers for their monthly rehearsals allowing the public to sit in during the café open hours. \nCome join! \nFree

DESCRIPTION:Doors: 7pm \nShow: 7:30pm \n2 sets \nA unique 20-piece big band that creates and performs lush original compositions and arrangements of songs from the rich\, historic\, and culturally-iconic Jamaican music styles of ska\, mento\, rock steady\, reggae\, and jazz from the 1950s and 60s. They blend the exuberant musical layers of the jazz big band era with Jamaican roots music into a unique\, accessible and joyous sound. Led by arranger\, trumpeter and educator Kevin Batchelor\, and featuring celebrated percussionist/vocalist\, and 85 year-young Larry MacDonald: together they have recorded and/or performed with nearly every great Jamaican music artist including Peter Tosh\, Bob Marley\, Bunny Wailer\, Lee Scratch Perry\, Skatalites\, Gil and Toots & The Maytals.
