5th Latin American Poetry Festival Como un lugar is a bilingual poetry, music and performance event produced by and for the Latinx and Latin American communities in NYC. This year the festival will feature La Muchacha y El propio Junte (Colombia) and performances by Soleida Ríos (Cuba), Ghazal Ghazi (Irán-USA), Amelia Bande (Chile), Mónica de la Torre (México), André Capilé (Brasil), Guilherme Contijo-Flores (Brasil).
La Muchacha is a sonic manifesto rooted in the exploration of her people’s musical traditions, recognizing her Latin American origins and a deep connection to the legacy of singer-songwriters. With a voice-and-guitar format, she navigates the nuances of Colombian rhythms, blending popular, folkloric, and contemporary world music. Her four albums—Polen, Canciones Crudas, Más Canciones Crudas, and her latest release Los Ombligos—have circulated widely across Colombia and at prestigious festivals and venues such as Músicas al Parque, Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo, Boom, Circulart, Mapas in Tenerife, and Teatro Colón. Los Ombligos has had a particularly strong impact in Colombia, released on vinyl and expanding her international reach.
